The Charleston market, by the numbers

Digital marketing for a growing Charleston market.

Charleston’s business market extends beyond the city itself. Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties are growing at different rates. We use that local context to help you decide where to build search visibility, where to advertise and how far your budget should reach.

What we recommend for your business

Choose where you want the next job.

For a contractor or local service business, a bigger region is useful only if you can serve it well. Start with the areas your crews can reach, then build SEO and advertising around those places and your most valuable services.

Separate residents from visitors.

A home-service customer and someone planning a Charleston trip need different information. For businesses that serve both, we recommend separate offers and website paths. For those that serve residents, keep travel-related searches from distracting the campaign.

Our recommendations draw on the research below and your business’s goals.

A Charleston service area needs more than one city name.

The city’s maps distinguish these areas. We use them as a starting point for practical coverage planning, then confirm the addresses, neighborhoods and job types your business actually serves.

Charleston Peninsula

King Street and the Market are part of the city’s Central Business District, along with portions of Broad, East Bay and Meeting streets.

For your marketing: For an in-person visit, make directions, parking and booking easy to find. For service calls, explain the work you handle and how to request it.

West Ashley

The city identifies Sam Rittenberg Boulevard as West Ashley’s main commercial street.

For your marketing: Use clear West Ashley coverage and real project examples when you work here. Send an interested customer to the matching service page.

James Island & Johns Island

Charleston’s GIS publishes separate city-limit maps for James Island and Johns Island.

For your marketing: Name each island you serve. Customers should be able to check coverage before they call, and your advertising should reflect any limits.

Daniel Island / Cainhoy

The city’s GIS groups Daniel Island and Cainhoy in a distinct map area.

For your marketing: Confirm which parts of this area your team serves before extending campaign reach. Carry the same coverage through the ad, website and inquiry form.

Berkeley & Dorchester counties

Berkeley and Dorchester are separate counties within the three-county Charleston region.

For your marketing: Treat wider regional growth as a planning question: which additional areas fit your routes, capacity and margins? Expand based on the jobs you want.

Something else on your mind?
That’s what the conversation is for.

Ask us
Where should our marketing start?

Start with the biggest gap between your business and the next customer.

  1. If customers cannot find you in search results, make SEO and local visibility the first priority.
  2. If people find you but rarely contact you, improve the website, offer and path to a call or quote.
  3. If the foundation is working and you need leads now for a specific service, use paid advertising to accelerate growth.
Do we need all four services?

That depends on where your business is today and how quickly you want to grow. We provide a free marketing assessment and will tell you honestly what you need now, what can wait and what you do not need. Your goals determine the mix.

Can you work with the website and campaigns we already have?

Yes. We can improve your existing website, take over or work within existing Google and Meta ad campaigns, and build on the marketing assets you already own. If something new is the better answer, we can build that too.

What should we budget for marketing?

There is no single number for every business. A common starting range is 2–5% of revenue for B2B companies and 5–10% for consumer-facing businesses, adjusted for your industry, competition and growth goals. That total can include your website, SEO, advertising, promotions, tools and other marketing—not just what you spend with Heart City Marketing.

How will we know whether the work is helping?

We track the work from search to contact. Google Analytics and Google Search Console show how people find and use your website. Call and form tracking show how many inquiries it produces. Local rank tracking shows where your Google Business Profile appears across your service area. We review those results with lead quality, booked work and sales so you can see what is helping the business.

Do I have to sign a six- or twelve-month contract?

No. We do not require long-term contracts for any of our services. We want you to stay because the work is valuable and the relationship is working.

If I cancel, do I keep my website and ad campaigns?

Yes. The website, ad campaigns, creative and other work we produce on your behalf belong completely to you and remain yours if we separate.
